REDS

Tomfoolery Young Blood Grenache 2016   /   Barossa Valley   /   10g   /   42b

Best mates Ben Chipman and Toby Yap are part of the young brigade of Barossa winemakers turning out exciting wines we love to drink.  Tomfoolery started up just over 10 years ago focusing on hand crafted, minimal intervention winemaking.   The Grenache is a little lighter than the Shiraz, more floral and pretty, with blue fruits, light and juicy.  This wine is great served either chilled or at room temperature.

Gembrook Hill Village Pinot Noir 2015   /   Yarra Valley   /   13g   /   60b

The wine is from the Upper Yarra in Victoria, an ideal region for growing Pinot Noir.  It has plenty of berry fruits on the palate and is a lighter, silky pinot, well-structured and food friendly.  It offers excellent value and classy drinking.

Vigne Surrau Carignano Juannisolu 2010   /    Sardinia, Italy   /  13g  /   58b

The Cannonau grape variety, the local variety of Grenache, is warm and spicy and is a distinctive wine of Sardinia.  The colour is deep ruby red, with flavours of red fruits.  It has a spicy background with soft tannins.   Cannonau is evocative of the ‘macchia’, the scrublands of Sardinia, with their herbal, native nuances of the area.  This wine is medium bodied and works well with either spice or herb based dishes.

Poggio al Sole Trafiore Sangiovese 2015   /   Tuscany, Italy  /   11g   /   55b

The winery Poggio al Sole lies in the very heart of Tuscany, in the beautiful countryside between Florence and Sienna.  Wine has been grown on this estate since the 12th century.  This chianti style wine is medium bodies with flavours of red berries.  A more fruit driven style of wine that matches well with tomato based dishes, eggplant or lamb.

Aziza’s Shiraz 2015  /  Hunter Valley, NSW   /  12g   /   53b

Harkham is a family run and owned business focusing on small batches of wine but extremely high quality.  The fruit comes either from their own vineyard which is farmed using organic methods but also sourced from a couple of other vineyard partners who they work closely with to ensure their standards are met.  This wine is preservative free, certified Kosher and organically farmed.
